Sunday,August 27th
(Fortune Graduation Fund).
The founder of Wonton Company, Ching Sun Wong, donated $ 20,000 to New York Chinese School in the name of the "Ching Sun Culture and Art Foundation" on the 26th, for the purpose of supporting the school's operations. On the same day, at the "Friendship Concert of Light" held at the CCBA auditorium, Ching Sun Wong also performed the Cantonese opera song "Qingwen Buqiu," hoping to promote the charm of Cantonese opera culture.
It is reported that Ching Sun Wong has known Eric Ng for several decades. With the continuous development of Wonton Food Company, the two discussed the establishment of a graduation scholarship program. The funding comes from the Ching Sun Culture and Art Foundation under Wonton Company and is awarded annually to graduates ofNew York Chinese School who intend to continue studying Chinese. In 2018, Ching Sun Wong and Eric Ng, then the president of the NYCS officially established the "Fortune Graduation Fund" for the graduates of the New York Chinese School.
The establishment of this fund has made New York Chinese School the only school among over 300 Chinese schools in the United States to award graduation scholarships, becoming one of its advantages. The fund provides each junior high and high school student with $ 300 and $1,000 respectively. In 2019, the reward extended to elementary school students, with each receiving $100. From 2018 to the present, nearly 500 graduates have benefited from the fund.
As a staunch supporter of educational initiatives, Ching Sun Wong not only donates 50,000 yuan annually to the graduation encouragement fund but also contributes to the school's operational fund. In 2017, he also sponsored the establishment of the "Wonton Food Achievement Scholarship" under the Greater New York Chinese Education Foundation, donating 120,000 yuan each year to reward the children of Asian catering industry families nationwide for completing their studies. He has become a renowned philanthropist in the community.
Principal Jennifer Wang expressed gratitude on behalf of the entire school community for the donation and thanked Wonton Company for its long-term care for the school. She stated that, given the enormous impact of the pandemic, the ability of a family business to continue supporting education is truly commendable, bringing happiness to the students of the New York Chinese School. At the same time, she encouraged community students to cherish the opportunity to learn Chinese and, in the future, apply their knowledge for the betterment of society.
